Show Wednesday service honors A. Chivers KuiUTiil services wore held today Wednesday, March 30, m in the Vernal Hull Ward Chapel for Arlenn Green I hivers, who died March 27, lilH3. The family prayer was given by Enos L. Hennion. Bishop Roger Allied conducted con-ducted the service and read the obituary. The opening prayer was given by J Arben Jolley followed bv a musical number "Whispering Hope," rendered by Marva Lent and Lois Erickson, accompanied ac-companied by Kuth Walker. Warren Richardson was the first speaker. Four great granddaugthers, Stacy Orn, Debbie Deb-bie Nelson, Susan Johnson and Annette Hennion sang. "How Great Thou Art," accompanied by Eva Hatch. Don Brown was the second speaker. Annette Ben-nion Ben-nion played the closing number on the violin, "Oh My Father," accompanied by Mrs. Hatch. Eva Hatch also played the prelude and postlude music. Closing prayer was given by Dirk Evertson. Pallbearers were Scott Nelson, Darin Nelson, Durrell Chivers, Greg Thompson, Thomp-son, Dennis Slaugh and Jeffrey Orn. Arlean Green Chivers was born March 11. 1888 in South Cottonwood Salt Lake County, the daughter of Henry Lawrence and Amorette Williams Green. The fam-ly fam-ly came to the Ashley Valley in 1895 and spent the first winter in what was then know n as Merrell Ward later changed to Naples, where Arlene attended school for -the first time. By the spring of 18 her father had built a two room log house in what is now known as Davis Ward and the family moved there. Arlean's early life w as one of pioneering pioneer-ing she being only eight years of age at that time. She remembered many of the hardships the few families in that part of the valley endured, cold homes, very little water available, no electricity and muddy roads, deep snow and severe cold plus a shortage of food. In those days children were taught to work in the home and on the farm. She along with her sisters and friends walked one mile to school each day. Her mother's poor health forced her to learn the art of nurse, homemaker, wife and mother. On March 18. 1907 she was married by Bishop James Shaffer of Naples to James Chivers. On Oct. U. 1921 the marriage mar-riage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Throughout her life she was an ardent worker in church and community serving serv-ing as an officer in the Primary, Sunday School. Mutual, Relief Society, having been a visiting teacher for 50 years. She was the chairman of the flow er committee commit-tee for Vernal 1st and 5th Wards for 20 years, assisting at all funerals. She was an active member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers since 1935. She w as registrar of the North East Vernal Ver-nal voting precinct for the past 32 years. She was preceded in death by her husband hus-band who died Dec. 19, 1958. one daughter, Blanche, and one son. Eldon. She is survived by one daughter, Lila Robins. Vernal, -1 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. grand-children. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Warren (Evyln) Richardson. Richard-son. Vernal, and Mrs. Levi (Eliza) Williams, Pueblo, Colo. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park Cemetery. The grave was dedicated by Frank Thompson. |
