Show Vernal hoop crew d3etfeafl$ Alfamon and Westf ViEtinot The Vernal Junior High girl cagers toppled the Altamont Lady Longhorns, 30 to 20, Thursday in Vernal. Shellie Beynon scored eight points on four field goals and June Anderson fired in a two-pointer two-pointer to present a 10 to 4 lead to the Vernal Panthers. Vernal owned a 16 to 10 lead after two quarters of action. Nancy Allen led the Panthers in the second quarter with four points and Melissa Jeppsen added two points. Altamont and Vernal both scored six points in the quarter. Jennifer Huber and Jeppsen scored two points each for the Panthers in the third quarter and Anderson added one free throw for a Vernal lead of 21 to 18. Altamont put in a field goal early in the fourth quarter to cut Vernal's lead to one point at 21-20. A backcourt violation gave the ball back to Altamont, but they failed fail-ed to connect on a field goal try. Vernal failed to connect on three free throw attempts, but Anderson fired in a field goal for a Vernal lead of 23 to 20. Beynon scored to give the Panthers' a 25-20 lead on a long shot. Anderson put in a field goal and a free,throw for a 28-20 advantage and Jeppsen scored a two-pointer two-pointer to deliver a 30-20 win to the Panthers. Beynon led the Panthers with ten points on five field goals and Anderson scored seven points. Jeppsen added six points and Allen scored four counters. Huber put in two counters. Altamont's top scorer was Janene Bolton at eight points. Danielle Durfey added six points and Angela Birch and Jami McDonald scored two points. The Vernal Junior High girls defeated West, 34 to 29, recently. The Panthers and Vikings were tied at 8-8 after one quarter and Vernal owned an 18-17 lead at the end of the second quarter. West grabbed a 23-22 lead in the third quarter, but Vernal rallied in the fourth quarter for a 34-29 triumph. Vernal was led in scoring by Beynon at 15 points and Allen at six points. Huber and JaeOman Batty put in four points. Anderson, Cindy Allred and Laurie Car-nagie Car-nagie added two points each. Orem toppled Vernal, 29 to 24 and Roosevelt thumped Vernal, 52-27. Beynon led the Panthers at eight points in the game with Orem and Anderson put in six counters. Huber scored five points and Allen added three points. Batty scored two points.
