Five energy companies had loan proposals with the Department of Energy for oil shale, tar sands and coal gasification projects, according to Utah energy director Jack Lyman. Mr. Lyman identified the firms as: Paraho Co., Grand Junction, which seeks $17.6 million matching money to build a commercial oil shale plant near Bonanza, Uintah County. Mountain Fuel Resources, which has applied for $3.6 million for a feasibility study on proposed gasification plant in Emery County. The parent Mountain Fuel Supply Co. would have matched the loan. Great National Corp. which sought $3.4 million for a feasibility study on a tar sands development: Syntana Corp. which asked for $4 million for a feasibility study of an oil shale development near Bonanza with Syntana putting up $700,000. Plateau Inc. which asked for $4 million to study conversion of its oil refinery in the Uintah Basin into an oil shale refining plant. |
