Show Seedling trees available from state nursery The final call for anyone interested in purchasing seedlings from the State Seedling Nursery for this year was given this week. There 1s still an ample supply of all the species available, according to a Vernal spokesman from the Division of State Lands and Forestry. Persons who are tired of ever increasing in-creasing utility bills can consider establishing a windbreak. Windbreaks have shown to help reduce both heating and cooling costs by 5 to 20 .percent if located properly. The State Seedling Nursery still has such excellent windbreak wind-break trees and shrubs as European sage, Squawbush, Black Locust, and Golden Willow, among many others available. Control of erosive areas can be accomplished ac-complished by the planting of trees and shrubs to hold back soil. By utilizing trees and shrubs to control those problem erosive areas, a dual benefit can be gained as it provides good game cover and browse. A fine example of this is the European sage. The final date for ordering trees or shrubs from the nursery is March 20. Seedlings cost $17 per 100 or $142 per 1000. Minimum order is 100 plants. Seedling order forms can be obtained by contacting the State Area Forester's office in Vernal. |
