Show Camp Vernal DUP holds February meeting Camp Vernal DUP met at the home of Fadalice Hatch, Feb. 20 with Alice Wall and Zina Anderson as co-hostesses. A dessert lunch was served to eighteen members. Captain LeOra Jacobe conducted. She welcomed back several members who had been ill, prayer was by Ruvina Caldwell. The pledge was led by Captain Jacobe and the song "Count Your Blessings" was led by daughter Jorgensen. Wanda Jorgensen was voted to the office of assistant chorister. Letters written by Calvin Crane Pendleton in the 1840's were read by a granddaughter, Mildia Jones. His letters were very descriptive of the times and places in which they lived. The was a doctor of medicine, a gunsmith gun-smith and a noted penman. A short history of Danil S. Pendleton, father of daughter Jones, was also read. His motherdied at his birth, Sept. 15, 1846. The family moved west with the early companies. They arrived in Utah in 1852. The family moved south and settled near Parowan. The lesson, "Legacy of Noble Pioneers," was given by lesson leader Mary Freestone. The story of Silas Richards was told. The March meeting will be hosted by Venice Rooks, Deon Merkley and Wanda Jorgensen.' |
