Augustus just barely escaped with his wrestling life as he" survived a three-point near fall scare. However, Augustus was deep in a hole as he was behind 5-0. Augustus cut Sorenson's lead to three points at 5-2, but made a big mistake w hen he let the Timpview tussler gain a reversal with six seconds left in the second round. Augustus nabbed an escape to cut Sorenson's lead to four points. Augustus proved that Uintah Ute fans had nothing to worry about as lie pinned Sorenson w ith 53 seconds left in the third round. "I was a bit scared when I fell behind 5-0. If you listen to your coach you have got it w on everytime. My opponent was strong. I was trying some moves and I made a mistake and he gained a takedown and a three point near fall. I started listening tomy coach and I kept on going. I watched for it, took it when it came and flipped him over for the pin. I used the bar series for the pin. I learned a good lesson listen to your coach," stated Augustus. Other Utes who gained pins in the victory over Timpview were Keith Campbell, 112; David Gentry, 126; Jeff Good. 132; Torr McCurdy, 145 and Randy Smuin. 155. "I pinned him with an arm bar. I broke him down to the left side and then ran it for the pin. We are looking good," said Smuin who pinned his tussler with 40 seconds left in the first round. "I went out there for the pin. We needed that. I thought he was down earlier." Campbell acquired his pin with 52 seconds left in the second round. "I just rode him rough and pinned him w ith a cross face cradle. I just went after him." said Campbell. Another pin artist in the meet was David Gentry who pinned Reed Nuttall of Timpview with 45 seconds left in the second round. "He was strong, but I worked for the pin and stuck him with the cradle," remarked Gentry. The Utes' Jeff Good pinned his opponent op-ponent from Timpview, Shawn, Kasmussen. with four seconds remaining in the first round. "I went after him and I wanted to get the pin in the first round and I got it with four seconds left. I used an arm bar for the pin. He almost slipped out of if when I got it on. I got the arm bar in and ran it around his head. I had him down once I got it on." commented Good. McCurdy nabbed his pin with 36 seconds left in the first round. Uintah's Pai Jenkins downed o; Haddock of Timpview 4-1 in , t T pound match. "He was a real tough k ? He was very strong. I just tried to ride -him and come out with a win " i" Jenkins. "It fet " to win my first varsity match I kept on 1 working for the pin, but I couldn't mZ get it," said Bedonie. j Darrin Bailey didn't gain a pin but lie did acquire a win by the amazi score of 18-0 in the 138 pound match "Uintah looked pretty good. He was a tough kid I kept working for the pin but couldn't quite gain it," said Bailev Bailev had five near falls in the matoh ' Vvhen asked to comment on the 5ol . win by the Utes, Uintah wrestling coach Chuck Henry remarked, "Our tusslers are a bunch of fighters. We fought back " real well in several matches. We got down in the 105 pound match, but we ; fought back and won by a pin. Tingev is just a sophomore and he made a few mistakes. He had a little trouble with t some pin holds, but we will correct that I Augustus got his pin against one of Timpview's better wrestlers. You never say die. We almost had the takedown, but the kid caught Augustus in a headlock and gained five points ' Augustus just battled back. If you think you can win you can. Campbell did a good job of wrestling. He wasn't too ? aggressive at first, but once he became aggressive he was effective. Seymote ' Bedonie seems to coast sometimes, but be was able to score when he needed to. " He came on strong at the end. He had a lot of fight in him. David Gentry is a T good solid wTestler and worked for his pin and gained it in the third round. Jeff " Good w ill be a pinner for us this year. " He is a senior and a team leader. Bailey I is dangerous because he can put an : opponent on his back at any time in the s match. McCurdy is an improved 1 wrestler from last year and is a very good pinning wrestler." Henry added, "Randy Smuin got his : pin. Randy is a good experienced w restler and we expect pins out of him His goal is to become a state champion " again. Jenkins is not a pinner. His body is not made to pin. Young will be a very good 185 pounder. He's not quite big "; enough, but thinks he is. Weeks didn't " gam much varsity experience last year and he needs the experience to become " a strong wrestler." |
