'' i f; ; i i ' : i . , 1 . ...... i JAMES McCONKIE James McConkie dies in Vernal James Archie McConkie, 83, passed away at the Ashley Valley Medical Center in Vernal Dec. 5, 1981. Born Dec. 14, 1897 in Vernal to Verdis F. and Caroline Elizabeth Walker McConkie. He married Leona Slaugh Atwood Nov. 23, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a rancher, stockman and member of the LDS Church, Maeser Fourth Wafd. He served a two-year Indian Mission and was general secretary of the Aaronic Priesthood for seven years. Survivors are his wife of Vernal; son, Garth J Atwood of Vernal; daughter, Mrs. Clark (Arva) Abegglen of Vernal; eleven grandchildren; 36 greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Marie Johnson of Orem, Utah. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. . 8 in the Maeser Fourth Ward Chapel. The family prayer was by Ronald Jolley. Following a violin solo by Lorna Condon, accompanied by Laura Hacking. Jet Abegglen gave the invocation. in-vocation. Bishop Clark Abegglen gave some remarks and the obituary and Dee Jenkins spoke. Larry and Dorine Allred sang "How Great Thou Art," accompanied by Melba Eaton and Bishop Garth Atwood spoke. Dorothy Peltier and Dawn White sang "These Hands," accompanied by Melba Eaton. Curtis Atwood said the benediction. Prelude and postlude music was by Ruth Jones. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery Clark Abegglen dedicated the grave. Pallbearers were Craig Oaks, Jet ,' Abegglen, Curtis Atwood, Richard Workman, Ronald Jolley and Reed Abegglen. Honorary pallbearers were the High Priests of Maeser Fourth Ward. The Maeser Fourth Ward Relief Society was in charge of the flowers. |
