Show Traildusters to compete in Buffalo, Wyo. July 26 Three members of the Vernal Traildusters will be traveling to Buffalo, Buf-falo, Wyoming July 26th to represent their saddle club in competition against some of the top riders of the nation during dur-ing the 15th annual National O-Mok-See. This year over 2,000 entries are expected ex-pected in the week long competition that will climax Friday night, July 31st, with the awards banquet and the crowning crown-ing of the new National O-Mok-See queen. Heather Caldwell, 18 year old daughter of Larson and Lucille Caldwell was chosen by the Traildusters to reign as their queen and represent them in the national competition. competi-tion. Heather, a graduate of Uintah High School, will be competing in the womens group in Western Pleasure, reining, bareback horsemanship, cloverleaf barrels, pole bending, flag race, barrel and stake, pair sack race, and key race. Heather will be using her two arabian horses named Phlegon and Tu-Boss. Reigning as the princess in the 11 and under age group is Michelle Mathes. Michelle, 11 year old daughter of Garrett Gar-rett and Linda Mathes, will be a sixth grader at Maeser Elementary School. Michelle, who just started competing seriously this year will be entering Arena Race in addition to the events Heather has entered. Michelle will be using her palomino named Sundance. In the queen contest the girls will be judged on horsemanship, appearance of rider, personality and overall conduct, con-duct, observed by an unknown judge throughout the competition. Rounding out the competitors is Wayne Moore. Twelve year old Wayne is the son of Dick and Connie Moore and he will be attending Vernal Junior High School this year. Wayne will be using an appalosa gelding named Ute and will be competing in the 12 to 15 age group in the same events as Heather. Traveling with the group will be Heather's parents, Janet and Ken Lesh and their two children and Jacque Hobbs. Michelle's parents plan to be in Buffalo Wednesday evening to watch their daughter compete in the princess finals. Don't forget the Traildusters O-Mok-See fun night July 21st. Registration is at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7:00. This show is open to any horse and rider. The public is invited to attend and give our young riders a good send off to Buffalo. Events for the fun night include barrel and stake barrels, balloon busting and egg and spoon. The event Scudda-Ho has been changed to Gymkhana Gig. The Traildusters are in need of a Utah state flag to borrow for the Nationals. Na-tionals. The flag will be carried in the grand entries which precede each show.
