Show Suspect incarcerated for Vernal robberies Vernal City Police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the April 27 robbery of Circle K and the June 23 attempted robbery of Thrifty Corner Market. Police arrested Floyd James Beachler, 21, of Redding, California June 24 and charged him on two counts aggravated robbery, a first degree felony. At 12:30 p.m. June 24, Officers Mike Hamner, Chris Symes and David Free picked up the suspect near the Kiwanis Scout House, 100 North 250 East, for questioning. He was later identified by witnesses in connection with two robberies, Mel Curtis, Vernal City Police said. The suspect entered Thrifty Corner Market, 1525 West Highway 40, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday of last week. He demanded the money from the clerk, the clerk refused and struggle insued. The suspect was scared from the store by the approach of another customer, reported police. Police recognized the suspect from a composite drawing done after the attempted at-tempted robbery at Thrifty Corner Market. Beachler was encarcerated in the Uintah County Jail pending $10,000 bail for each charge. Vernal police also reported a traffic accident last Thursday at 235 South Highway 40. Bruce Wayne McDowell, 20, of Vernal attempted a left turn from Highway 40 to 235 South and pulled in front of a vehicle driven by Doyle At-wood, At-wood, 18, also of Vernal. Both vehicles suffered $1,400 damage and both drivers were cited. McDowell was cited with improper left turn and Atwood was cited for speeding. Atwood was traveling west on Highway 40. |
