Show 536,000 tfo be awarded en tfouimey The first annual Eastern Utah Petroleum Invitational Golf Classic will occur in Vernal at the Dinaland Golf Course July 17, 18 and 19. Over $:,(KH) in cash and prizes will be awarded. A golf cart and a set of tires will be the pri7.es on the closest to the hole contest on number one and a car will be given to the first golfer who nabs a hole-in-one on number nine during the tournament. Some of the professional golfers who have signed up for the tournament are Jon Mauss, Dinaland Golf pro; Bruce Summerhays, Heber City; Chip Garriss, Provo; Kean Ridd, Provo; Rusty Guernsey, Salt Lake City' Ronnie Reif, Steamboat Springs; Doug Hart, former Vernal resident who is the head pro at Palm Springs; Reid Goodliffe, Brigham City; Don Branca, Salt Lake City. Some of the golfers who liave signed up for the championship flight are Vance Christiansen, Ogden; Jack Ridd, Salt Lake City; Craig Hart, Kd Gudac, Hans Parkinson, Red Hatch, Bud Pease, Deb Casada, Kent Mc-Curdy, Mc-Curdy, Alan Hart and Stacy Hall. The amateur portion is filled up and more professional golfers will sign up as the tournament draws closer, according to Mauss. The Kastern Utah Petroleum Invitational In-vitational Golf Classic replaces the Superior Tire-Bridgestone Golf Classic. Mike Malaska of Salt Lake City won the golf classic last year with a score of 138. He had a 05 on the first day and a 72 on the second day. Ron Vlosich of Green River and Steve LaDonne, Rifle, tied for second place at 143. Vlosich had scores of G8 and 75 and LaDonne had tallies of 69 and 74. Vernal's Mauss and James Blair, Ogden, tied for fourth place at 144. Mauss had scores of fJ and 75. Blair had tallies of 70 and 74. Blair won the tournament in 1979 and competed this year in the U.S. Open. Summerhays, Goodliffe and Doug Hart tied for sixth place at 145. Hart had scores of 72 and 73. Don Branca, Bob Droz, Christiansen and Mack Christensen, Salt Lake City, tied for ninth place. A pro-am will be played July 17 and the tee off time will be 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The golf classic is set for July 18 and 19. The A-B-C-D flights will tee off July 18 and 19 at 7:30 a.m. and the cham-pioaship cham-pioaship and professional golfers will tee off at 1:30 p.m. |
