Kevin Skinner of Idaho Falls placed second at 230. Fitt s scores were: pitch, 100; run, 80 and hit, 13.3. Other first place winners were: Todd Whitehurst, VVatsonville, Calif., 8 year old class, 288; Kevin Galart, Woodland, Calif., 9 year old, 260; Jimmy Mingus, Gilroy, Calif., 10 year old, 281; Scott Scharpen, Eugene, Ore , 12 year old, 344 and Raymond Denuit, Lodi, Calif , 13 year old, 502. The only other I'tah athlete, who placed in the top two, was Brett Nordquist of Ogden at 306 (second place) in the 12 year old class. The six winners in the division meet in San Francisco will have to wait until September 15 to find out if they are among the 12 youngsters who will compete com-pete in the National Pitch, Hit and Run Finals at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, New York. Two weeks later, these youngsters will receive their awards in an on-field ceremony prior to game two of the 1980 World Series. Winners in each age category will have their scores compared with the winning scores in the other ten division competitions being held around the country. The final division competition is set for September 10 at Shea Stadium in New York. The top two scores in the country (in each age group) will compete com-pete for the National Title on September 27 in Cooperstown. |
