Show Adult classes given for high school credit Adults who lack a high school diploma are encouraged to continue their work toward it by enrolling in the evening school section of the Uintah Adult High School, to begin Sept. 8, according ac-cording to Rhoda T. DeVed, supervisor of Adult Education. . "Adult students do not pay tuition for any course which applies toward a diploma," Mrs. DeVed said. "Education "Educa-tion is free in Utah for a high school diploma." Advantages offered by the State of Utah and the Uintah School District to adult high school students are: they are allowed one unit of high school credit for seventy-two hours of class time, with good performance; up to two units of credit for work experience after reaching the age of twenty-five; one unit of credit for basic training in the military and for service schools; five units of credit for passing a General Educational Development Tests (GED) and credits already earned in the tenth, eleventh, and twelth grades of accredited ac-credited high schools. Following is the schedule for this semester's evening school courses. One credit will be awarded for satisfactory completion of each, with the exception of driver education and health, which are one-half unit courses. All classes begin at 7 p.m. Sept, 8. Registration is the first session of each class. American History is a required course which is not covered by the GED Tests. It is offered once each year. Valda Massey is the instructor with the class meeting on Monday and Wednesday Wednes-day in 4SS of the Vernal Junior High. English will be instructed by Wayne Gurney on Tuesday and Thursday beginning Sept. 9 in 16E of the Vernal Junior High. Three units of Language Arts credit are required for graduation and two of them must be English. English first semester and literature second semester are offered. One unit of English may be received through the GED Tests. English for new Americans will be instructed in-structed by Dan Good on Monday and Wednesday, Sept. 8, in room 12 of Uintah Uin-tah High School. This course is for all persons regardless of origin, who need to learn English. Emphasis will be on pronunciation, vocabulary and basic grammar. Those who have a high school diploma in their original country are welcome to enroll in this class without paying tuition. Health is required for graduation and is not covered by the GED Tests. Vivian Holmes will be the instructor with the class meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Resource Room of the Vernal Junior High. Consumer Auto I will cover the fundamentals fun-damentals of auto care, minor repairs, etc. Ted Munford will instruct the class on Tuesday and Thursday, beginning Sept. 9, in the Auto Mechanics Shop of Uintah High School. Carpentry, instructed by Clifton Brady on Tuesday and Thursday, beginning Sept. 9, in the Woods Shop of Uintah High will include the techniques of cabinet making and finishing with figuring of materials and other skills. Office Procedures will be instructed by Robert Jameson on Tuesday and Thursday, beginning Sept. 9, in the Business Building of the Uintah High Vocational Complex. Individualized training will be offered in all secretarial skills. The three mentioned vocational courses offer elective credits. Non-credit students are welcome in any evening class for a $10 tuition. Driver Education will not begin until Tuesday, Sept. 30, when the present class is completed. Call Mrs. DeVed at 789-0020 and the bulletin giving full details will be mailed before the class begins. The General Educational Development Develop-ment Tests will be given at the Uintah . School District office in January. |
