SPeontfliGrs to open season s on the rosacl in Wyoming Vernal Junior High will open its 1980 football season on the road against Rock Springs on Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. The Panthers will battle West in an away game on Sept. 18 at 4 p.m., and will host Rangely's junior varsity team on Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. The Panthers will host Roosevelt Junior High on Sept. 25 at 4 p.m., and will take on Craig in Vernal on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. Vernal will host Duchesne on Oct. 2. Vernal also has games set with Green River, Oct. 9 and Craig, Oct. 23, on the road, but the dates may be changed. "Neldon Smuin and Kurt Robb are returning players from last year's team. Players, who have been looking pretty tough are: Gary Swim, Mike Robbins, Neldon Smuin, Kurt Robb, Troy Oaks, Murray Johnson, Lloyd Merkley, Bobby Rasmussen, Jim Smarr, Craig Fries and Leslie Smith. However, there are many more Vernal athletes, who have been looking good in practice," said Leon Smuin, Vernal Junior High head football coach.
