At the special meeting of the Sheep creek Irrigation Company Stockholders held at 7:30 p.m. September 1, at the Daggett County Courthouse a report was made by one of the consulting engineers. He assured the stockholders that the Long Park Dam was safe; that many engineers and agencies had been 4 consulted and many safeguards' had ' been taken to insure the safety of the dam. After his report the stockholders gave a voice of confidence saying they were satisfied with the dam and glad it was being built. Due to all the problems tUn.. Daggett County Schools opened August 29. with a total enrollment of 207 in the three schools. In the Manila High School (includes junior high school) there were 93 students; in Manila Elementary 77, and in Flaming Gorge Elementary School in Dutch John 37. Manila High School baseball team participated in a tournament at Wendover, Utah week before last and lost both games-one by 1 point and one by 2 points. Glenn Ellsworth received a trophy for his pitching. On Friday of last week they played against North Rich at Lake Town, Utah and won that game. Visiting at the Howard Iverson home during last weekend were Howard's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Iverson, and three sisters, Mary sweeting and Helen Iverson of Fillmore, Utah and Echo Blake of Evanston, Wyoming. While here they toured the dam and the Flaming Gorge Recreational area. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Neff and children of Salt Lake City visited Robert's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert H. Neff, during the Labor Day weekend. There were many people in the Manila area during the three day weekend. Monday afternoon and part of the forenoon, there was a steady stream of vehicles and boats going west out of Manila besides those going north on the alternate route. Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson drove to Ft. Bridger, Wyoming Labor Day and saw the end of the Mountain Men Rendezvous. Maureen Crimin visited with Mrs. Leon Jensen Sunday. Maureen is the former roommate of Mrs. Jensen when they attended Snow College in t-pnriam. Utah. Nearly all the leaders in the various departments of the Manila LDS Relief Society attended the leadership meeting in Green River, Wyoming. The Relief Society is being reorganized and some departments still need leaders. Mrs. Glenn (Betty Rae) Tinker is the new president. Her counselors are Mrs. Don (Ester) Larsen and Mrs. Fred 'Janet) Weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Art Robinson and children of Rock Springs, visited at the home of Art's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson, Saturday afternoon and overnight. He helped hfe father finish hauling his hay while here. Visiting at the Lawrence Biorn home this weekend were their daughter, Mrs. Zona Larsen, and daughters of Salt Lake City. Mrs. Larsen is moving to Keokuk, Iowa soon. |
