The per formance will be the first time in its own concert hall. The following follow-ing Tuesday the symphony is coming to Vernal for two morning school performances and an evening performance. Utah Symphony vo play hero Tuesday Cellist Ryan Selberg will be soloist with the Utah Symphony when the orchestra appears at the Vernal Junior High School Auditorium on Tuesday. September 18. Mr. Selberg is principal cellist with the Symphony and prior to coming to Utah he was principal cellist with the Edmonton Symphony in Edmonton. Ed-monton. Alberta. Canada. He is also a faculty member at the University of Utah. Amid appropriate pomp and circumstance, cir-cumstance, the Utah Symphony will open its 40th season with its first performances. per-formances. September 14 and 15. in the magnificent new Symphony Hall in Salt I-ake City. Only three nights later, on September 18, it will perform in Vernal for the music lovers of this area. Curtain time at the Vernal Junior High Auditorium is 8:15 p.m. From vague beginnings in the depression of the 1930's, through semi-professional semi-professional wartime seasons, through an initial professional year under Werner Janssen's direction and through thirty-three prosperous seasons under Maurice Abravanel's baton in the 5.200 seat Mormon Tabernacle, the Utah Symphony has steadily matured into one of America's grc;il symphony occhestras. The concert is sponsored by the Vernal Business and Professional Women's Club and tickets are on sale at Bittercreek Book Store, Knitter's Boutique, Thorne Studio, Uintah County Library, and Ute Inidan Trading Post. They will also be available at the door on the evening of the concert. |
