Show Uintah Takes Region Mat Title Again The state champion Uintah Utes repeated as Region Six wrestling champs Saturday, at Vernal and qualified eFeven men for the state finals next Friday and Saturday. The Utes tallied 131 points. Union was second with 91 and Monticello thirfi at 73 VS. Moab finished fifth with 34 points. The Red Devils qualiiied only one man. Senior Jim White, at 155 pounds was run-nerup run-nerup in his division. White lost a 5-1 decision to Gary Duke of Uintah and had to wrestle back to a decision for a true second. Third places went to Larry Lar-ry Marsing, heavyweight and Gary Perez at 138 pounds. Ron Huff, 185 pounds, and Mike Holyoak, 112 pounds took fourth places for Moab. Uintah, of course, was expected ex-pected to win, but the Utes were not all that dominant They took only six first places which was something of a surprise. The southern division divis-ion of the region came up wKn an equaly surprising four first places. Sam Keith, 98 pounds and David Lacy, 132 pounds copped titles for' Sar. Juan. Roy Dean Cressler, 185 pounds and Lane Fields, 133 pounds were winners for Monticello. Mon-ticello. White, who has lost on'y one match this year, and Coach Gene Leonard will go back to Vernal for the state meet this Friday. |
