The driver . of the tanker was killed in the crash which stopped traffic for some time while crews cleared the wreckage and the thousands of gallons of gasoline which were spilled along the roadway. (T-I Photo) Driver Killed in Grinding Crash Near Moab Wreck of a large tanker truck - north -of - Moab -Tuesday night took the-life, of . Duane -Russell Warner, 48, of Salt Lake City. Warner -died of head injuries suffered when his truck went out of control on the turn just north of the Colorado River bridge on U.S. 163, and hit the rock wall there. The truck traveled about 335 feet from the time it first went onto the shoulder of the road until it came to rest. Both tank cars on the truck were loaded with gasoline which streamed . . from . the wreck when the. cars were ruptured by the force of the impact. Some 9,500 gallons of gasoline were lost in the incident, . and made cleanup operations for law enforcement enforce-ment officers and volunteers extremely hazardous. Investigating officers who directed traffic for over two hours were Sgt. Ralph Benson Ben-son and Troopers Bruce Black and Melvin Schiffman of the Utah Highway Patrol; Sheriff Sher-iff W. H. Bowman, and a number num-ber of City Police officers. The driver was removed to Olpin Funeral Home in Fillmore Fill-more where services will be held. |
