Ned's Welding and Machine 5.":K,p, located on ,r.u'.h Highway 163, has seen tea years of expansion and grinvl'li in the community, ulroli has helped the business busi-ness to progress and become stable. "I started nt my home in 1) with an old used welding mochine and an old itntck." said Ned Dalton, owner of Uia shop. Mr. Uallon, born and NED'S WELDING & MACHINE SHOP raised in Moab, had worked for the Uranium Reduction Company as a welder prior to cpeiung his own business. He explained that he really did not know if he could make it on his own, butt felt at that time that he would like to give it a try. After beginning to do some major welding projects at his home, he expanded into a Id sou'h of town and erected er-ected a small building to house a garage area and additional ad-ditional equipment. In 1964, he built the larger complex, adjacent to the old building, which now provides adequate room to work on several different dif-ferent projects of all sizes. K's difficult to explain in detail de-tail exactly what services a shop like Dalton's performs, according to Mr. Dalton, who explained that there are a conglomeration of jobs that can be clone in a shop that isze. "Every'.hjng from a trailer trail-er hitch on a car or pickup truck, to the rebuilding of major parts for drill rigs" can be contracted with the shop. Mr. DaKon went on to explain that all types of custom cus-tom machine work can be done to the customer's specifications. spe-cifications. "At the present time," he said, "we are work" inig on a washing machine !" Mr. Dalton feels fortunate to be located in this area. The majority of the contracted contrac-ted jobs, however, are not from Moab concerns, he explained. ex-plained. Mr. Dalon has spent aU of his life in the Moab area, with the exception of a stint with the U. S. Air Force and the education , completed above his high school years. A 1951 graduate cf Grand Comity High School, he was active in sports, particularly particular-ly in focdball and was recognized rec-ognized as an ail-s ate player play-er while partie'.patr.g on ithe h-.l-i school level., He r.'O p-ayed football for 'iWestm'r.ster College in Salt Lake City. He explained fhat at cue time ho thought he nr'ght liko to leave the area to make his home, "as all youiv people think", but after serving ser-ving in the Air Force and attending at-tending both Westminster and Utah State University at Logan, Lo-gan, he indicated that he found his ties to the Moab area were too great to establish es-tablish himself somewhere else. "Moab, people have been read good to me and have helped me to succeed in my business", he commented. "I don't regret going out on my own."
