Show Frontier Files Answer ts Moab Erie! Before Civil AercEiautics Board Only one round-trip flight per day is needed into the Moab area, according to a rej'.y fj led by Frontier Airlines Air-lines in connection with a petition' pe-tition' to 'corjiinue service to several rural areas which was received last week by Don Hoffman, Director of Economic Development for Grand County. The reply came in the form of direct answers to specific points made in the petition which was presented pres-ented to the Civil Aeronaut-ics Aeronaut-ics Board in a recent Salt Lake City hearing. Frontier's awareness of depressed de-pressed economic conditions has never hepn higher, it states, in replly to the stipulation stipu-lation that only one round tir.'p per day would have a "djsittjret and marked tendency tenden-cy io depress the economic igrcwth cf this region." However, How-ever, it vjidicaites the bleak economic results suffered by Frontier in 1958 and 1969, as well as) the contjiniued net loss suffered during 1970, are of concern to the Airline agency. Explanation is given that Frontier's request to reduce its mininuum required' service ser-vice at Moab and the cities Involved in its suspenson is a "stopgap measure." "Frontier "Fron-tier must conserve its minimal mini-mal remaining resources or complete suspension at these and many more cities will be mandatory." Frontier has been rendering render-ing services to communities like Moab for the last several sever-al years at enormous expense ex-pense to its stockholders, it. goes on to say. The subsidy received by Frontier has not even remotely approached Frontier's actual subsidy need to provide these inherently uneconomic services. "Moab's position appears to be ' that nothing short of Frontier's actual demise shuld be cause for reduction of its service, and that there is no validity to conserving Frontier's economic eco-nomic resources in hope .thaii a recovery can be made." Frontier officials feel that two round trips are not justified justi-fied into Canyonlands Fieid. The report explains in detail that, although Moab has claimed that Frontier schedules sched-ules have significantly affected affec-ted pas'jnger originations, the boardings during the last several years have only seen a miinimal Increase. The report dwells on the fact that Moab has not supported sup-ported an airline schedule of more than one round trip flight per day. The example cited that Vernal produced produc-ed over 33 per cent more traf-f.s traf-f.s last year with one round trp than Moab did with two. However, when considering Moab's primary ccmplami that Flights 572 and 573 should be retained because they generate gen-erate more traffic than regresses and agrees with the Flights 511 and 514, Frontier information which was presented pre-sented at the hearing. Even if the flights are reinstated, however, the Frontier officials offi-cials still maintain that only one round trip into the area is needed. |
