These words Keith Melville delivered in Moab during a recent visit here. MJlville, a candidate for Congress from Provo, discussed dis-cussed unemployment and inflation in-flation as the paradoxical squeeze felt throughout the state of Utah. In some of the counties south and east of Salt Lake, unemployment has doubled 'in the last year. Those without jobs must continue con-tinue to pay higher prices to live as inflation drives ail costs up. He also spoke of the southern south-ern counties as being "under-represented" "under-represented" i n Congress, since both U. S. Senators are from Salt Lake and the Congressman Con-gressman representing the first district has been from the Ogden area for almost two decades now. "As your Congressman," Melville said, "I intend to give the "outlying "out-lying communities the representation repre-sentation they need and deserve. de-serve. The entire state will be better served if there is regional balance in Utah's congressional delegation." - Melville is a professor ol American government at Brigham Young University. He has also taught at Utah State University and the College Col-lege of Eastern Utah. He is no stranger to Utah politics as he was the Democratic candidate for Congress in 1966. Keith and his wife Ruth and their nine children campaigned cam-paigned door-to-door throughout through-out the twenty-two counties of 'the first district, and they intend to do the same this year to meet many more people personally. |
