Officials Study Dcam Proposal Representatives from four major organizations, including includ-ing the Soil Conservation Service, Ser-vice, the. Bureau of .Reclamation, .Reclama-tion, Corps of Engineers, and Utah Division of Water Resources Re-sources met in a major area meaHing on Monday, June 29, to conduct further investigation investiga-tion on the proposed Moab watershed project. Other agencies attending the special spe-cial meeting included repre-snliatives repre-snliatives from ithe Four- Corners Regional Commission, Commis-sion, and the Bureau of Land Management. Various Moab officials and -interested citizens citi-zens were also in attendance. Directing the meeting was Don Hoffman, Director of Ecnonorrtic Development for Grand County, who had also taken the group on a tour of the proposed site of the project pro-ject earlier that morning. Mr. Hoffman briefly reviewed tha history of the watershed as to flood damage, previous corrective work done at Tush Tu-sh er, Stewart, and Bliss washes, and investigation studies stu-dies which have been made by the Bureau of Reclamation Reclama-tion and the Corps of Engineers. En-gineers. He also briefly went over the application for assistance as-sistance under Public Law 566, which was filed in 1963 with 'the Sol Conservation Service. Each of the four involved agencies specified ideas on the project which would fit under their jurisdiction, and each have definite opinions on how .the projected plans for a dam at the site should be handled. A representative representa-tive from the Governor's Of-f'ce Of-f'ce of Lccal Affairs, Gordon Gor-don E, Harmston, was present pres-ent with the proposed idea of organising a composite plan with the help of the agencies and the state cf Utah. Another meeting for the ''Four Agencies" was set for the near future to see if they could come up with a co operative solution to the wat-. ershed problems. A solution to include flood control program, pro-gram, along With a culinary water project and a recreation recrea-tion site will formulate the ba3ic plan of the organizations organiza-tions discussion at that time. |
