According to Utah Congressman Gunn McKay, Mc-Kay, the embattled units were the only two of the eleven new-start projects slated for accelerated funding in the new Public Works Appropriations Bill. Rep. McKay, a member of the House Appropriations Appropria-tions Committee, said that of the $5.6 million total allocated for the 11 projects, $1.6 million, nearly one-third, will go to speed the projects to the point of construction in fiscal year 1979. McKay released today a letter he received from Office of Management and Budget Director James Mclntyre, supporting support-ing the increased funding and foreshadowing approval ap-proval of construction. "At your urging," Mclntyre wrote McKay, "the administration has agreed to accelerate funding fund-ing for. ..the Uintah and Upalco Units of the Central Utah Project. We can accept total funding for FY 79 of $900,000 for Uintah Unit and $700 000 for Upalco. It i8 understanding that these funds are sufficient t0 f' complete all pre-construc-tion activities for these units." Mclntyre told McKay that "while the admin-istration's admin-istration's budget request for FY 80 is still in its formative stages, you have my assurance that the administration will give the most serious consideration to construction construc-tion funding for these projects in the FY 80 budget request." |
