Show I.Vwa Hit hox 631 n Lincoln, Neb. Dry conditions, few deer mark Southeast Utah bunt perner Extremely dry conditions in the LaSal mountains make high fire danger a major consideration during this year's deer season which begins Saturday, Oct. 21. Hunters are cautioned to be careful with fires and cigarettes. The deer season on the LaSuls this year has been designated as an 11-day buck-only hunt, and deer numbers continue to be extremely low, according to reports. Division of Wildlife Conservation Officer Garth Carter stated that stalking conditions on the LaSals will be extremely poor and recommended that hunters work in groups to obtain the best chance of success. He also advised that all hunters study the Utah Deer Hunting Proclamation to become familiar with regulations concerning concern-ing the upcoming hunt. Hunting hours begin one-half hour before official sunrise Saturday and end each evening one-half hour after sunset. Carter said that hunters should be aware of firearm restrictions and regulations controlling the tagging and transportation of deer. He went on to say that hunters are required to wear a minimum of 400 square inches of hunter orange clothing on the back, chest and head areas. The Division of Wildlife will, for the first time, be monitoring CB radio channels 19 and 14 during the big game seasons this year. Carter urged sportsmen witnessing game violations to report such violations via radio. All Division of Wildlife officers will use the handle, "Sportsmen Control." "Let's work together during the deer season," Carter said. "We don't have an excess of game and the best way to get our game population back on top is to obey the game laws." |
