Show Rugged Week in Highway Accidents Reported by Highway Patrol Although reports from all highway patrolmen in District, L have not yet been filed, twelve accidents have been registered by the force during dur-ing the past week. Most of the accidents occurred because be-cause of roads slickened by the recent rains. Trooper Wendell Weber investigated in-vestigated two accidents on October 15, the first occurred at 11 a.m. on U.S. 6-50 about five miles east of Green River. The accident occurred as a utility trailerbeing pulled pull-ed by a 1972 Dodge pickup driven by Michael Walter, 22 of Washington, came loose from the hitch and traveled into a lane of oncoming traf fic. The trailer was hit by a 1972 Torino driven by Her-shell Her-shell Beard, 47, of Aurora, Colo. The force of the im-pace im-pace moved the trailer back across the road and into the path of another 1972 Torino driven by Steven Beer, 26, of Council Bluffs, Iowa. About $900 damage was done to the Beer automobile; $300 damage dam-age was listed to the trailer. trail-er. Walter was cited for failure fail-ure to secure the trailer. Weber's second accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. about 15 miles north of Moab when Amiel Jaramillo, 18, of Price lost control of a 19C9 CMC pickup on the rainslick roads and rolled over 3-12 times. He suffered minor cuts and abrasions in the incident and was cited for speed too fast for existing conditions. Damages Da-mages to the truck were set at $1200. Weber also investigated an accident on October 18, at 9:15 a.m. about 7 miles south of Crescent Junction when a 1969 Ford Fairlane, driven by Joseph Rozejl of Montana slid off the slick pavement doing about $250 damage to the auto. Rozell was cited for driving with defective equipment. Also on October 18, a tanker tank-er truck hauling compressed gas jacknifed, hit a small bridge and went off the west side of the roadway about six miles south of Crescent Junction. Junc-tion. There were no injuries in the accident which was also investigated by Trooper Weber. Trooper Weber issued a citation ci-tation on October 18, to James Butner, 32, of Long Beach, Calif, when Butner lost control con-trol of the 1971 Datsun he was driving and left the road and overturned. The citation was for failure to control the vehicle and the accident occurred 4-12 miles east of Thompson on U.S. 6-50. On October 19, at 12:25 a.m. Brandon Merritt, 20, driving a 1972 Mazda lost control of the car 19 miles south of Moab and went off the road, rolling one-half times. No citations were issued in the incident which caused $600 damage to the new car. Trooper Bill Pectol investigated inves-tigated a on e car rollover 20 miles north of Moab on October 18. The accident occurred oc-curred when Robert Loomis, 60, of Ojai, Calif, lost control con-trol of hks 1958 Volkswagen on rainslick roads and rolled roll-ed over 1-12 times. He suf- i : fered cuts and abrasions in the incident. Two government owned vehicles ve-hicles were involved in an accident ac-cident 26 miles north of Moab on October 19. Trooper Ron Wood reported that a 1972 Chevrolet pickup driven by Gary D. Bradley, 23, began to slow down near the scene of another accident when a 1971 Ford station wagon which was following Bradley ran 1 into the back of the pickup." James Wright, the driver of the station wagon was cited for following, too close. Damages Da-mages listed to the Ford were $300 and $25 was listed to the pickup. He was hit from lind by a 1967 Ford driven "J Daniel L. McCamnon, 25, UI Lucas, Ohio. Damages of $300 were listed to the pickup pick-up and $450 to the Ford. McCamnon was cited for speed too fast for existing conditions. The second accident on the 19th occurred 5 miles south of Crescent Junction when a 1968 Ford pickup overturned on the rainslick road. The vehicle ve-hicle was driven by Albert Lorenzen, 43, of Canoga Park, Calif. A passenger riding rid-ing in the camper on the truck, Dean Weidman, 52, received shoulder injuries in the accident. ac-cident. Trooper Schiffman reported that the camper was totally demolished and the pickup received $800 damage. No citations were issued. Schiffman investigated an accident at 11:15 a.m. on October Oc-tober 20, when a 1969 Ford pickup driven by Jerold Story of LaSal went off the road at the bottom of Blue Hill 13 miles south of Moab. A passenger in the truck, Arthur Ar-thur Doll of Nucla, Colo, received minor cuts and abrasions. Estimated damage was set at $1400 and Story was cited for failure to keep control. The final accident which was reported took place October Oc-tober 20, 21 miles north of Moab near the airport when a 1967 Malibu driven by Steven Ste-ven Metcalf of Salt Lake City was coming south and hit a rainslick portion of the road, lost control and overturned. There were no injuries and no citations were issued. Damage Da-mage was set at $450. |
