Show Bennett is Pleased With Canyon Bill Washington Sen. Wallace F. Bennett, R-Utah, said today to-day he was "pleased with the success of the House and Senate Sen-ate in achieving an acceptable compromise on the Glen Can-yon Can-yon Bill and that the language authorizing the construction of a road from Glen Canyon to Bullfrog Basin was retained retain-ed in the provisions passed by both houses." "Although I do not serve on Interior related committees as do the other three members mem-bers of the Utah delegation, I have joined with them and the Governor in support of legislation to establish a Glen Canyon National Recreation Area," Sen. Bennett said. "I am disappointed that the section sec-tion giving the State of Utah alternative authority to build the road from Gleri Canyon to Bullfrog Basin was deleted, but I am hopeful that the legislative leg-islative intent of the bill 1 authorizing the building of a road after a proper study which takes the environmental environmen-tal impact of the proposed road into consideration will Drotect Utah's interests. "I was pleased to see the Lloyd - McKay compromise bill essentially accepted by both Houses, and I know the creation of a Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is an event which has long been awaited by Utahns and the great many other Americans who appreciate this uniquely scenic area," Sen. Bennett said. |
