Show Moab Teams Run Hot In State Tournament Four Moab teams, representing repre-senting the summer baseball program, traveled upstate this week to compete in tho Utah State Boys Baseball Tournament being held in two different cities. Representing the Senior Division, or Pony League, were Esquire Barber Shop and McDougald Oil. The Junior Ju-nior Division, made up of Little League teams was represented rep-resented by Moose and Moab National Bank. Four wins by the Moab teams on Monday made them elrgible to continue in tournament tour-nament action. In Payson, Esquire arber Shop won its first game 1-2 with McDougald McDou-gald Oil winning their game 10-7. David Actkison hit a grand slam home run in the final inning of play in the McDougald Oil game, which won the game for the Moab team. Little League teams playing play-ing in Pleasant Grove, were also victorious Monday with scores of 11 to 1 for Moab National Bank and 3-1 for Moose. Bobby Velasquez fanned fan-ned 18 batters during the game played by the Moose team. Tuesday's action changed the cards a little with only two of the Moab teams coming com-ing out on top. Esquire Barber Bar-ber Shop beat American Fork with a score of 8-1, while their Pony League colleagues col-leagues on the McDougald Oil team lost to Spanish Fork 3-4. Little League competition on Tuesday took Moab National Nat-ional Bank up another noteh with their win over Spanish Fork 9-8. Pleasant Grove squeaked over the Moose team 6-7. More action is slated on . Wednesday with the two winning win-ning teams going into championship cham-pionship categories. Moose was scheduled to play at 1 p.m., with McDougald Oil at 1:30 p.m. On Wednesday evening ev-ening at 5 o'clock, Esquire Barber Shop will continue its fight, while Moab National Bank plays at C pm. KURA radio informed The Times-Independent Times-Independent office that a lato report on those games would be given arter the 9 p.m. hour on Wednesday. Sixteen teams in the Senior Sen-ior Division are competing for state titles in the tourney, tour-ney, along with 32 teams in the junior division. All tho teams represent Utah communities, com-munities, except for one, which is from Dove Creek, Colorado. Greon River will see action ac-tion later this week, as they compete in the Western States Stat-es Regional Tourney in Helper Help-er on Thursday and Friday. To qualify for the tournament, tourna-ment, they defeated both Emery and Wellington teams. This tournament determines the team to go to California to compete in the World Series Se-ries of Little League Baseball Base-ball which will be held there later this summer. |
