Show Officials Coming to Start Work on Vocational Ed. ..Primary steps in the for-' mutation of the Vocational Education Center for the Moab area will begin on Sept. 6, with the arrival of members of the Utah State Department of Public Instruction, In-struction, under the direction direc-tion of Deputy Superintendent, Superinten-dent, Jay Campbell. Superintendent C. Robert Sundwall and Assistant Superintendent Sup-erintendent Bill Meador, director dir-ector of vocational education for Grand County School District, Dis-trict, will meet with the of ficials. Various areas of stu-:dy stu-:dy will be undertaken which will include, facilities, construction, con-struction, curriculum,' etc., the results of which will be formulated into final plans for the Center. Authorization for the Moab Center was given by the Utah State Board, of Education Educa-tion in early June, but final plans are just beginning to ' materialize. "There . is still a hope that a year from now we will be well along, even if not quite ready to occupy the facility for the operftng of school," explained Superintendent Super-intendent Sundwall. "We do anticipate, however, howev-er, that we will be able to utilize the building for the 1970-71 school year," he added. add-ed. The Vocational Education Center is another step toward to-ward providing more complete com-plete educational opportunities opportunit-ies for everyone in Grand County. Other major educational educa-tional projects undertaken by the School District are the Continuing Education Program, Pro-gram, scheduled to begin this fall, and the Cooperative Planning and Innovation project pro-ject to be undertaken by Utah State University. USU representative Don Cruz has already moved his family to Moab and will begin studv on this project the first of September. Courses presently planned for the new facility include electronics, auto mechanics, welding and metals, vocational voca-tional art, and secretarial and clerical training. The entire en-tire curriculum will be expanded ex-panded from that offered at the present time in the school system. The new Vocational Education Edu-cation Center is to be located locat-ed just east of Grand County Coun-ty High School, north gfthe football field. |
