Show City Council OICs Fluoridated Water Here Fluoridation, a long discus- " sed topic by the Moab" area citizenry, came to a final vole at the regular meeting of the Moab City Council, which was held on Tuesday, August 5. The motion was made and passed that fluor- ; ide be added to the City water wa-ter system as soon as the job can be completed.-This would take some time, according ac-cording to Moab City Mayor, Winford Bunce,. as the process pro-cess would entail the turning out of the water in the present pres-ent system before the fluoride fluor-ide addition could be made. Thirty-five to forty members mem-bers of the community were in attendance at the meeting, and some showed strong op- position to the addition ; of the chemical to the city water. wa-ter. Others felt that a decision decis-ion could not be made by the city council alone in an area which could ' affect the health of the community. These persons voiced opinion that a referendum should be 1 put into effect which would force the decision to go to the polls for a general vote in November. ,In order to force the vote . to . the polls, the referendum would have to be circulated and would require signatures of approximately 15 per cent ' ot Mb population, according to Mayor Bunce. This action would require the city to , hold, off on the installation of the fluoride equipment until un-til -after the election. ; Taking a back seat to the fluoride discussion was the setting of the City mill levy, which was retained at 34 general mills and 4 bond and interest mills, the same figures fi-gures as a year ago. Other matters discussed during the City Council meet included the painting of the outside of the ' swimminf pool. The contract was given to a local firm, Livingston Painters, to complete .the project. |
