Show Uintah County Oil Test At Critical Depth Chevron Oil Company is drilling at a depth below be-low 15,825 feet . . .term-, ed most critical ... at the Red Wash area deep test in eastern Uintah County. The well, No. 44-21-C Unit, midway between the Rangely and Ashley Valley fields, is to be drilled to at least 18,050 feet for tests of possible oil production in the Weber formation found at this deep depth. Carlton Stowe, minerals specialist, Utah Geological Geologi-cal and Mineral Survey, notes the well could link up the three fields with deep production. In so doing, it would provide the impetus for much additional deep drilling. In fact, oil companies are seriously looking at the whole Uinta Basin province as a potential deep drilling exploration area. Another well, also being readied for drilling by Chevron is located in the Strawberry Reservoir Reser-voir area at No. 1 Strawberry Straw-berry Unit. Chevron says this well will be drilled to at least 17,700 feet. Several deep wells . . . some three miles deep or more . . . are drilling in the Altamont area of Duchesne County. Map-co's Map-co's No. 1-6 Ralphs is one of these. The operator opera-tor is drilling below 17,-670 17,-670 feet at the well just on the out-skirts of Altamont Alta-mont field. Mapco is drilling below 16,700 feet at another well in the vicinity, vi-cinity, No. 1-1 Ralphs. Both tests are to go to 18,000 feet or more. Gulf Oil has started drilling at a deep well in the Bluebell Blue-bell area. No. 1-34 Tribal. Tri-bal. It is scheduled to 18,000 feet. Gulf also has a projected 20,000 foot test as well as another to go to 19,500 feet in the area. In Sevier County's Sa-lina Sa-lina Canyon, Phillips Petroleum Pe-troleum is drilling below 14,140 feet at its scheduled sched-uled 16,500 foot test of pre-Cambrian age formations. for-mations.
