Show The newly created Moab District Multiple Use Advisory Board will hold its initial meeting June 9 and 10 in Moab, according to S. Gene Day, Moab District Manager of the Bureau of Land Management. The ten-member ten-member Board is made up of representatives of interest groups including mining to environment, livestock, .minerals, .min-erals, wildlife, civic and local government. The Board members are: D. L. Taylor, Moab, Livestock and Range Management, Gar-dell, Gar-dell, Snow, Ferron, Livestock and Range Management; A. C. Ekker, Green River, Outdoor Out-door Recreation; Calvin Black, Monticello, Local Government; Govern-ment; Robert B. Sparks, Monticello, Civic and Business; Busi-ness; Ray Matheny, Provo, Environmental and Cultural Protection; Fran Barnes, Moab, Mo-ab, Environmental arid Cultural Cultur-al Protection; Harvey Mangus, Price, Wildlife Resources, Glenn H. Sides, Price, Minerals Miner-als and Energy Resources, Robert Norman, Moab, Minerals Min-erals and Energy Resources. The Advisory Board has an important role in advising the Moab District Manager on matters relating to the management, man-agement, protection, use and disposition of lands and resources administered by the Bureau of Land Management within its Moab District of Utah. The Board also provides a significant vehicle for citizen involvement in plans and programs for the National Resource Lands. The Board membership was selected from a wide range of individuals. They were nominated nomi-nated by local governments, wilderness societies, livestock and mining associations, ISSUE and other groups. The makeup of the Board includes: D. L. Taylor, Moab - He is a long time resident of Southeastern South-eastern Utah and has been in the ranching business all his life. Presently, Mr. Taylor is a member of the Grand County Commission. Gardell Snow - A long time resident of Ferron, he has been working in livestock industry all his life. Mr. Snow is chairman of the Emery County Commission and is chairman of numerous civic and governmental committees. commit-tees. A. C. Ekker, Green River -He is a commercial river outfitter and guide. Mr. Ekker served on the Castle Country Travel Council and is in constant contact with the local jeep posses, motorcycle riders and dune buggy enthusiasts. Mr. Ekker was nominated by Outdoor Trails, Inc. and the Museum of Northern Arizona. Calvin Black of Monticello -is the chairman of the San Juan County Commission, and he was nominated by the Commission, Utah Mining Association, Utah Petroleum Association and other groups. Matheny of Provo - J has been involved for 20 years j in archaeological research in 1 Central and Southeastern Utah. Director of Brigham 1 Young University Archaeology ; Field School in Montezuma ! Member of Utah ; Archaeology Research Council ! and Antiquities Board of the j Utah State Division of History, j Specializes in man's relation- J ship to environment; interes- ted in paleontology. 1 Fran Barnes of Moab - ; nominated by ISSUE, Grand County Commission and Moab j Chamber of Commerce is a 1 full-time professional writer J and photographer specializing ! in Utah subjects. Has a broad j basic education in various ' scientific and engineering j disciplines. Organized the j Moab Chapter of ISSUE, i Liaison and consultant for the ; Sierra Club, Friends of the : Earth, Wilderness Society and ; NRDC. Harvey Mangus of Price - is ' the president of Carbon-Emery Carbon-Emery Fish and Game Association. Associ-ation. He is a committeeman on the Southeastern Utah Association of Governments representing manpower. He was nominated by Price Municipal Corporation. Glenn H. Sides - is a graduate mining engineer with 25 years experience in the coal industry. Is currently Chief Engineer for Western Coal District of U.S. Steel. He was nominated by U.S. Steel Corporation and other groups. Robert Norman a resident of Moab - is an independent geologist and a member of the Utah State Board of Oil, Gas, and Mining. He was nominated nomina-ted by the Utah Mining Association, Utah Petroleum (Association, and True Oil Company. |
