Board President Sam Taylor stated thattheas-signment thattheas-signment of responsibilities responsibili-ties was being made in an attempt to provide the Board with more in-depth analyses of school functions func-tions and activities, and to allow school administrators adminis-trators to work more closely with the School Board in a day-to-day basis, without the necessity neces-sity of involving the entire en-tire Board. The areas of Policy, Finance and Budget, Federal Fed-eral Programs and Legislative Leg-islative Action will be the primary responsibility of President Taylor. Vice President Les Graves has been assigned assign-ed responsibilities over Curriculum Evaluation and Design, Textbooks and Supplies, Special Education, Ed-ucation, and Teacher Evaluation. The newest member of the Board, Betty Dalton, was assigned responsibilities responsi-bilities over School Lunch, Summer School, Adult and Community School Program, Recreation Re-creation and Athletics, Health Services and Liaison Li-aison with other governmental govern-mental agencies. Mr. Taylor pointed out that the assignment of responsibilities re-sponsibilities was not done in an effort to dilute di-lute any member's responsibility re-sponsibility to the entire system, but to give the Board its own "expert" in specific fields of responsibility. re-sponsibility. Each member of the Board will meet individually indivi-dually with the President and School Superintend-net Superintend-net during the next two weeks to more fully review re-view the new assignment. The Board has also initiated in-itiated again the practice prac-tice of holding one special spe-cial meeting each month as well as the normal regular meeting. Special meetings will be for the purpose of analyzing one specific subject area, since time for this in-depth in-depth analysis is difficult to arange in the lengthy agenda scheduled for each regular meeting. The first such special meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 22, when the Board will take a look at the entire system, from regular classroom work to community and adult education. All meetings of the Board are open to the public, and attendance of school patrons is invited. ' |
