Show Travel Up in Area Parks Arches National Park and Island in the Sky sections of the Canyon-lands Canyon-lands Complex of Monuments Monu-ments and Parks are showing the largest percentage per-centage increases in visitation vi-sitation for the year, according ac-cording to a report from Canyonlands Headquarters. Headquart-ers. Arches traffic counts showed 29,876 persons visited there during September, Sept-ember, up 22 per cent from the 24,513 who visited vi-sited there during the same month a year ago. This brings the total number of visitors for the year to 250,566, up 20 per cent from last year's record number of 209,504. Island in the Sky Section Sec-tion of Canyonlands registered re-gistered 2,777 visitors, up 4 per cent from the 2,680 who visited during 'September of 1972. This brings their increase for the year to date to 10 per cent with 25,769 visitors vi-sitors compared with 23,522 last year at this time. The Needles District of Canyonlands showed a drop in visitation for the month of 12 per cent with 3,158 persons going to that area compared with 3,591 for the same period per-iod a year ago. Visitation Visita-tion for the year to date stands at 30,184 corn-Dared corn-Dared with 30.957 for last year at" this time, a decrease de-crease of 2 per cent. Natural Bridges National Na-tional Monument lagged furthest behind in visitation visit-ation for the month with only 3,897 visitors compared com-pared with 8,062 for September Sept-ember 1972, a decrease of 52 per cent. This area's visitation for the year to date is off 26 per cent with 40,203 visitors vi-sitors thus fas in 1973 compared with 54,189 for the first nine months of last year. The Maze District with only last year's fe. gures for comparison with 118 during the same month last year. Figures for the year show and increase of 49 per cent with 1,078 visitors com pared with 724 a year ago. |
