Show Deep Drilling Set in Remote Area of Utah Deep drilling by oil companies co-mpanies is scheduled in still another remote and virtually unevaluated area of the western states cms ween with me announcement announ-cement of a three mile deep exploratory well in the Coalville area of Utah's Ut-ah's Summit County. Carlton Stowe, Utah Geological and Mineral Survey staff specialist, ' reports the well is to be drilled in section 4, township town-ship 2N, range 7E, about 12 miles east of the town, and is to be drilled to a depth of 17,500 feet. At this depth, geologists geolo-gists project the forma tion to be the Weber formation for-mation of Pennsylvanian age. Mr. Stowe says the location is within the southern sou-thern edge of the Wyoming Wyom-ing Folded Belt in th e southwestern reaches of the Green River Basin, about 44 miles west of Utah's Bridger Lake field, a Dakota formation oil pool found at depths of 15,000 feet. Operators of the new well are American Am-erican Quasar Petroleum (a Fort Worth Company who has opened exploration explor-ation offices in the United Un-ited Bank Center in Denver), Den-ver), Energetics Inc., of Englewood, Co., and North Central Oil, Houston, Hous-ton, Tex. Elsewhere this week, the rig employment picture pict-ure in Utah continues to improve. The active rotary rot-ary count climbed to 36 in the state, three more than the previous week, a new high for the year. The Energetics, Inc., firm also has scheduled new drilling in southern Utah's Emery County. One well, 23X-7 Reserve Federal, is projected to about 3,350 feet and the other, 41X-11 Federal, will go to at least 3,400 feet. Location is in the extreme southwestern portion of the county just to the east of the Fish-lake Fish-lake National Forest area. ar-ea. A Kane County exploratory exp-loratory well will be drilled dril-led by Amerada -Hess Corp., some nine miles southwest of Upper Valley Val-ley field west of the town of Escalante. The No. 1 Federal-Midwest will be drilled to 6,100 feet. Amerada Am-erada -Hess also has scheduled No. 1 Federal-Skyline, Federal-Skyline, a scheduled 6,600 foot test about eight miles southwest of Upper Valley Val-ley Field. In the Uinta Basin this week, Gulf Oil plans to drill in the Randlett area northwest of Vernal. Gulf will drill an 8,000 foot test about a mile and a half away from its 1970. 6700 foot discovery well in the field. Other new work in the Basin is scheduled sche-duled in Altamont field and in the Gusher area. |
