Show Utters to Hie Bdttof . . . Mr. Sam Taylor c I read with interest from your Community Comments column in the Times Independent of Thursday, September 27. As you well know, the subject of governance of education in Utah has been a subject of much discussion and debate for a number of years. Hopefully, Hope-fully, some appropriate solutions to the matter of governance can soon be determined. The bulk of the conversations con-versations in which I have been able to participate have centered around the governance of the two technical te-chnical colleges and the area vocational centers at Roosevelt, Richfield, and Smithfield. The district dis-trict vocational centers have not been a matter of concern as it pertains to the matter of governance. gover-nance. Our discussions so far as Moab is concerned have been with some local lo-cal people and Utah State University relative to offerings of-ferings of the continuing education center. We have provided and hope to be able to provide more help in the continuing education center's educational edu-cational offerings. As you know, the problem pro-blem of dual governance and dual and competing agencies is costly, particularly parti-cularly during this period of escalating expenses. My sole personal concern has to do with evolving an educational delivery system sy-stem at a minimum cost avoiding duplication. I feel that whether our school, as an example, has 400 or 4,000 students, our commitment to economy eco-nomy and excellence, again avoiding duplication, duplica-tion, should be assumed as a matter of obligation. I enjoyed my recent trip to Moab, especially the opportunity of meeting meet-ing with the Rotary Club. I hope that as you travel through Price, you will take time to visit our campus and become further fur-ther acquainted with some so-me of the educational commitments we are making. Respectfully yours, Dean M. McDonald President of College of Eastern Utah |
