Show THROUGH THE FILES Of THE TIMES-INDEPENDENT AND THE QRAND VALLEY TIMES 10 Years Ago A telegram from Senator Frank E. Moss announced approval of a $7,153 . Urban Planning Assistance grant to Moab City. The money represented repre-sented the federal government's govern-ment's 2A portion of the second phase of the Moab City-Grand County master plan, now being drawn up. The grant accompanied an original $10,190 grant, made in May, 1965, as the federal portion of the first phase of the master plan. Grand County had 60 days in which to clear right of way and work out access problems if the Utah National Guard was to open a new road from the Uintah Basin southward. The proposed link would fill the last gap in a projected north-south Canyonlands Highway to extend from Yellowstone Yel-lowstone National Park to Grand Canyon National Park. Many Moab ski enthusiasts were enjoying excellent conditions con-ditions at Blue Mountain Ski Resort near Monticello. Winter Win-ter fun would be on the agenda for weeks to come due to the three foot depth of hard-packed snow. 20 Years Ago A show and dinner dance were to be held at the Town and Country Club to begin a drive for funds for the purpose pur-pose of establishing a museum at Moab, it was announced this week by Mrs. Lloyd Pearson, who was representing represent-ing the Ladies Literary Club in the drive. Through the Government Affairs Institute, Washington, D.C., Moab had been chosen to receive Karl Rudolph, deputy dep-uty chief of Current Affairs Department of the Southwest German Broadcasting Company. Mr. Rudolph was to spend five days in the area studying various phases of the American way of life in the school system, civic problems, community life and do considerable consid-erable research with the local radio and television broadcasting broad-casting company. 40 Years Ago The first annual President's ball, part of the new March of Dimes drive for Infantile Paralysis, Par-alysis, was to be held in Moab this week, it was announced by Mayor D. E. Baldwin. Mrs. Alice Miller was named nam-ed president and Ralph Mdler was named vice-president and manager of the Moab Cooperative Cooper-ative company at a stockhold ers' meeting held in Moab th week. f Albuquerque soil conserve f tion officials announced that some 17,700 acres of land y upper Moab valley would b?J taken under a soil erosioJ project by CCC crews station ed in the area.
