Show Still time for contest entries By Dick Kalebjian Contest Chairman It isn't too late to join the ranks of those Times-Independent contestants con-testants now lined up for the next four weeks of competing for one of the top six prizes to be awarded Feb. 27 in the newspaper's current Big Prize Subscription Contest. The list of active contestants are beginning to hit their stride in this exciting race for the $1,000 top award, the second place prize of $500 or one of the four other cash awards to be given. It is imperative for anyone thinking of getting in the competition competi-tion to sign up immediately at the contest office located at The Times-Independent. While it is true that others have the advantage of an early start, catching up would not be at all difficult. The contest is open to all ages so that any man or woman, young person or child may have a chance to capture one of the main prizes or earn a substantial sum of money in commissions. Each week, those participating receive commission checks on their sales. They are not required to wait until the end of the contest to get the money they have earned. In this issue of The Times is published the first list of contestants contest-ants and their relative standings. Participants are helped by their friends and acquaintances who may call them personally on the phone and offer to take a new subscription or extend their present one. The phone number is identified in the list. Those subscribing directly to The Times may select one of the contestants to be given credit. As yet, no one has a "walkaway," nor is there any contestant who is too far behind but what a handful of subscriptions would place them among the top leaders in the race. As in most ventures, winning is not a matter of mere wishful thinking but rather a lot of determination and effort. A halfhearted half-hearted attempt will not put anyone on top of the list or even near it. But this is one program in which a sincere effort will pay off in both commissions and a crack at the $1,000 or $500 first two prizes or one of the other four cash awards. The problem with a great many people is that they just don't believe they could ever be a winner in such a campaign as this and that's exactly the result. The formula for winning The Times-Independent Big Prize Contest Con-test is simple. Believe you can win, get excited about the prospect and then go out and make the contacts. Before you know it, the contest will be over and there's a great likelihood that you'll be hearing your name called to receive one of the big checks to be given away. ' There is absolutely no personal investment on the part of any contestant except the investment of self-confidence, enthusiasm and hard work. Monday ends the first of the contest's three periods and the point at which the vote value of the subscriptions is reduced. Presently for example, a one-year subscription subscrip-tion earns 8,000 votes, but from Tuesday through Feb. 13, the end of the second period, the rate drops to 6,000 votes. Then, from Feb. 14 through the end of the contest,:-Feb. contest,:-Feb. 27, the vote earning again: declines to 4,000. ; What this says is that every contestant needs to gather as many,' votes as possible NOW during this ; first period when their value is'; highest. ; ' |
