Show Women's Literaiy Club Celebrates 71st Blrtlidcsy The Woman's Literary Club members and their guests met Monday evening at the Moab National Bank Meeting Room to celebrate the club's 71st birthday. It was a gala affair complete with birthday party hats and a large birthday cake decorated dec-orated with the club's colors col-ors of yellow and gold and the date on the cake marked mark-ed with 1898-1969. The center table was beautifully beau-tifully decorated with a long center piece of white feathers fea-thers nestled in green satin. On each side was a tall gold candle holding the huge numbers "71". The small tables were also decorated with a center piece of green and gold netting and a yellow candle. Refreshments were a delicious de-licious green punch, ice cream balls with cocoanur, r.uls, gold and green minis and of course the birthday cake. Compliments go to Sic Home Life Committee. Mrs. Fred Beycler, Mrs. Mad:e Waide, Mary Knopp, Verla Meadcws. and Mrs. Hannah Pittman for making all llic-arrangements, llic-arrangements, decorations, and the "surprise" program. Mrs. Lester Taylor, gave an appropriate book review entitled: "I Have Two Hands and I am Busy Wringing Wring-ing Thorn" by Jane Goodsoll. The story depicts the frustrations frust-rations and daily problems cf an ordinary housewife and was chuckful of rollicking laughter as each woman can identify herself with the trials of the housewife. Mr?. Taylor was presented with a lovely gift as a token of appreciation ap-preciation from the club of v.hic'n she was once the president. pres-ident. The party also gave tribute tri-bute to all Past Presidents of the oldest Woman's Club in Moab who have guided the club consistently down through its 71st history. Or iginally, the club was first called "The Busy Woman's Club" and it has been truly busy in many civic projects and community improvements improve-ments from banning horse racing ;on main street to installing in-stalling fire hydrants, painting paint-ing downtown trash cans down to establishments of the Moab Museum and assisting as-sisting financially in the erection er-ection of the new county Library for which they earned earn-ed the Sears Roebuck Community Com-munity Improvement award. President Palma Jacobs conducted the meeting and plans were discussed for the coming state convention to be held in Price the first wek of May. |
