Wednesday and received receiv-ed the telegram at 4:30). Good news travels fast, and it doesn't really matter ' a whole lot who gets it first. -SJT- :. It may be small town; it may be a little silly; and it will undoubtedly be unprofessional, unpro-fessional, but we're looking forward this week to the Lions Club home talent show, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Star Hall, and we know it will be a lot. of fun. This type of program used to be a regular annual affair of the Moab Lions Club, and it is good to see the custom revived. -SJT- By and large, school teachers tea-chers don't like rural towns. At least not according to a list of applicants received at the Grand County School District Office. Wednesday. These were teachers who had filed with the Utah State Board of Education stating their desire to secure se-cure positions in Utah. Of the 28 teachers listed, 12 stated their preference' as being Salt Lake City; 2 m chose the Provo area; 2 selected sel-ected Granite or Jordan both of which iare in Salt Lake Valley; 5 wanted to land in Ogden and 1 in northern nor-thern Utah. Only one teacher designated designat-ed a rural area, stating their preference was Daggett Dis-, Dis-, trict (and he probably hadn't gotten the word that fishing in Flaming Gorge dropped off considerably last year). From the looks of those statistics, assistant superintendent superin-tendent Bill Meador, who is handling the bulk of teacher tea-cher recruitment chores for Grand county, has his work out out for him this spring. -SJT- Always bragging about lis medium, Bud Bordeaux this week sent over the following j. item, which he says, proves lv that TV is worth a lot more than some people give it credit for: "The 31-day TV blackout U by controversy over a cable-television cable-television franchise in Som-. Som-. erset, Ky., while denying II members of the community j'ooess to mass communca- ions media, seems to have ( ""Proved communication between be-tween individuals. "According to the Louis- (VlIle Courier Journal, nine months after the blackout, 'he birthrate at the Somerset Somer-set City Hospial increased m Per cent. "e FCC and local franchising fran-chising authorities may not , "nsider birth control within 7r realm of jurisdiction, Dut. as planned parenthood organizations will testify, the merry month of May' hardly "wds the added impetus of a television blackout." |
