Show Accident Checked Jan. 23 by Utah Highway Patrol The Utah Highway Patrol investigated an accident on 1-70 Jan. 23 involving a semi-truck and trailer loaded with grapes. At 9;50 a.m. 18 miles west of Green River the truck was going down grade and driver, Billy Lee Adams, Erie, Colo., was unable to control speed, stop, or brake down. The rig was going too fast to negotiate a curve, and went over on its side, according to investigating investigat-ing Trooper Wendell Weber. Both the driver and relief driver, Allen Gochanour, Thornton, Colo., were injured and were taken to Grand Junction by the Green River ambulance for treatment. The load, belonging to Ore-Cal Transport Corp., bound for Denver, was slightly damaged and was transferred , to another rig following the accident. Estimates on damage dam-age were $9,000 to the tractor and $7,000 to the trailer and load. Adams was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control, causing an accident. Trooper John ' Kimball recovered re-covered a stolen car Jan' 31 and arrested its occupants. The vehicle, a 1968 Ford from Michigan, was recovered 6 miles South of Crescent Junction and Michael Garland, Detroit, Mich., and Matti Koivula, Fenton, Mich., were arrested and are currently incarcerated in the Grand County Jail awaiting extradition extradi-tion proceedings. |
