Show Modular Homes Discussed At City Council Meeting The City Council opened bids on two projects at their regular meeting Tuesday, according to Dick Unger, City Recorder. They opened bids on pipe for 9 well and for a pickup for the water department. Two beer licenses were issued: to the Shehons who will open the former Towne and Country and to Donna Day who will open the former Silver Dollar. The City Council is trying to determine if the modular homes being erected locally are legal in Moab and meet the uniform building code that was updated in 1973. The problem seems to center around the fact that the building inspector does not have the opportunity to inspect the construction of homes that are being built elsewhere and then brought to Moab. The uniform building code is set up by Internationa Order of Building Contractors. Companys that bring modular homes into this area have joined or are in the process of joining this organization, according ac-cording to Unger. The homes will then be inspected at the building site and will meet the uniform code. The Fine Arts Guild requested re-quested a subsidy from the City Council to assist them in bringing the Utah Symphony to the Moab area. The Council decided not to finance the request, but to provide partial assistance, up to $400, if needed, said Unger. |
