Show Pirate News Two weeks ago elections were held at the high school to determine the new cheerleader cheerlead-er for the varsity squad. The election was held to fill in the vacancy of Carene Seager who just got married. The winner of the election was Conae Burr. Also two weeks ago the Pirate wrestling team hosted a fine Emery squad on Pirate turf. There were only three wrestlers for both teams and the Pirates won the match by a narrow one point. The winners were Tab Weighing and Lee Vohs, both on points. In the varsity match-up, the winners were Randy Stubblefield and Jerry Womack with Buff Price and Bob Holloway winning on forfeits. A week later the wrestlers matched up with Grand County High. The only winner of the J.V. match was Tab Weighing. In the varsity match, the winners were Randy Stubblefield, Tracy Spadafora and Jerry Womack. Last Wednesday the girls' basketball team locked horns with Monticello and thev played very well. The final score was 19-15, a Pirate win. The girls' team is undefeated in league play. Candee Vetere and Angie Devereaux were ' high scorers for the game, each having six points. The Friday after this game the boys took on the Bucks in Monticello territory. The Bucks took control from the start and the Pirates never caught up in the J.V. game. Tab Weighing had 12, Allen Burns had 8, Perry Hansen, 8 and Tommy Whitesides and Kelly Reay each had 4. In the varsity game the Pirates, with a well balanced scoring attack, beat the Bucks by a score of 65-61. Tim Vetere with 19 led the scoring. Kam Weighing had 17, Brad Bun-had Bun-had 15, Kyle Ekker had 10 and T. Ross had 4. This win places the Pirates in a three way tie with East Carbon and Alta-mont Alta-mont for first. So be watching for the Pirates in all sports. |
