Show Ralph Miller, Jr. Named To Head Development Corp. Moab businessman, Ralph J. Miller, Jr., was elected president of Moab Area Development Corporation at a meeting of the new Board of Directors held last Thursday at-the at-the Golden Stake Restaurant. Mr. Miller succeeds Ray Branscom in the position. Mr. Branscom will remain on the Board of Directors. Assisting Mr. Miller in the vice president's slot will be banker, Charles McMurray. Dr. Paul R. Mayberry was elected secretary-treasurer, and will be assisted by Mrs. Betty Bowen as assistant secretary. The Thursday Board meeting meet-ing called principally to organize the new Board, came two days after the annual meeting of the corporation, where a new slate of directors was chosen to serve during the coming year. Elected on that Board were Ray Branscom, Brans-com, E. L. Schumaker, Sam laylor, Charles McMurray, Ralph Miller, Jr., Rudy , Higgins and Dr. Paul Mayber- ry- Members of the corporationan corpora-tionan entity, formed a number of years ago to assist in the establishment of new industries in the Moab area, turned out Tuesday night for the annual meeting, held at the County Courthouse, and heard reports on the activities of the Board during the year. Mr. Branscom told the members that Moab Industries, Indus-tries, a local sewing firm which was assisted initially by y financial backup from Moab area Development Corp., was $ in need of a larger building to '. set up a cutting room. 1 Currently, the local factory which employs in excess of thirty people, takes pre-cut material and produces a .finished product under con-; con-; tract to other sewing firms in ; the state. The addition of a cutting room would enlarge ; the scope of their operation, ! and make the firm more able 1 to get additonal contracts. 1 Moab Area Development is ! assisting the local sewing firm l in plans for the new building. Initial planning plan-ning has called for placing the I' firm in a newly planned industrial park which is being considered by the Grand f Count Commission. E. L. Schumaker explained that the industrial park was . pending upon the costs of the water and sewer system to . Spanish Valley and stated that the federal Economic Develop-l Develop-l ment Administration, a prin- cipal funder of such a park, could assist with the funding for water and sewer, if it involved service to an industrial indus-trial park. Mr. Schumaker further ex--plained that the question would all be considered along with the funding of the Mill Creek Dam, and would enhance en-hance storage of water at the Mill Creek Dam when completed. com-pleted. He said that the final decision would be made by the Grand County Commission with financing studied and detailed more thoroughly. Members of the Moab Area Development Board agreed that they would continue to support and assist Moab Industries in the application -for an SBA loan to complete their expansion. Moab Area Development Corp. currently has fifty-five members who own 71 shares of stock valued at $100 each. |
