Show New Boiler Installed After Fire Bruce Rigby, manager of the local Doxol plant, announced announ-ced that a new boiler was installed Monday, replacing the one that caused a minor fire the previous week. Operations never ceased at the plant, according to Rigby, , because they had a supply of a ' half million gallons of dry propane on hand, enough to fill customers' needs for a month. The process at the plant involves three dryers by which the propane passes through a chemical solution that removes all moisture from the product. After 250,000 gallons has passed through each dryer, it is necessary to "cook down" the chemical solution and remove the water. At this point the boiler is fired up to 600 degrees. During the cooking dowi process last week, a rusted area of the 15 year old boilet allowed a small propane leak that ignited. The boiler was backed by a brick fire-wall and the area is kept free of any flammable material. "There was little or no damage," said Rigby, "but we replaced the boiler simply becauseh7j! . old and needed replacing.'' W j |
