Show Membership Drive Scheduled By Chamber of Commerce The Chamber of Commerce membership drive scheduled for a February 7 kick-off was among the topics discussed at the regualr Chamber luncheon on Tuesday. Slim Mabery, committee-chairman, committee-chairman, said that the Chamber Cham-ber is a "promotional agency for any community. It is the area's tool for improvement." He mentioned several things that the local group has done to bring dollars and growth to the Moab area. He requested that all members join him at the Golden Spike at 7:30 Saturday morning to kick off the 1976 Chamber of Commerce Com-merce membership drive. Troy Black, Fire Chief, was the guest speaker. He reported report-ed that in 1975, the department depart-ment answered 97 alarms. Property loss was placed at $285,745. "This would have been higher if it were not for our well-trained volunteer firemen," Black said. The average response to an alram is 19.2 men per fire, contributing contrib-uting an average of 1,862.4 hours a month just answering calls, according to Black. It is estimated that it costs a man 30 minutes just to answer a false alarm. In addition, each volunteer attends a two-hour meeting 47 times a year. Black reviewed with the Chamber some recommendations recommenda-tions that have been made by Utah Insurance Services Rating Rat-ing Bureau for the Moab Fire Department. Recommendations Recommenda-tions included an additional 1,000 gallon per minute pumper truck and sufficient volunteers to insure 27 men responding to every fire alarm. Chamber president Connie Caouette announced the committee com-mittee chairmen for 1976: Jeep Safari, Harold Jacobs; Retail Council, Ray Tibbitts and Red Stewart; Volleyball Tournament and Softball Tournament, Dixie Barker; Water Carnival, Tom Hart-man; Hart-man; City Beautification, Keith Peterson; 4-Wheel Drive Campout, Jim West and Craig Larsen; Motorcycle Trail Ride, Ron Auger and Rod Phillips; Mini Marathon, Ron Auger and Les Erbes; Christmas in Moab, Randy Spencer and Jim Wiseman; Fireman's Ball, Connie Caouette and Troy Black; Membership Drive and Citizen of the Year, Slim Mabery. |
