Bids opened Mar. 20 on Hanksville school addition By Barbara Ekker -The Wayne Co. Board of Education held their regular March meeting in Hanksville Monday where bids were opened for the new addition to the present pres-ent elementary school. Three bids were opened and Gronmans General Contracting, Provo, Utah was the apparent low bidder bid-der with $219,878. The addition calls for 5,000 square feet of space which will be added to the southwest corner of the present school structure and will house a multipurpose multi-purpose room, kitchen, and storage room. Work is to begin April 1 and to be completed in 135 calendar days. Other bidders were John Kendrick and Valley Builders. Robert Springmeyer, architect and engineer of the original building was the architect on the new addition and was present at the bid opening along with Board members, Superintendent Su-perintendent John Brinkerhoff, Brink-erhoff, Scott Durfey, Em-mett Em-mett Clark, and De Von Kelson and board secretary, secre-tary, Mrs. Taylor. Following the bid opening open-ing the regular board meeting was held. Parents j were informed that the state Board of Education, as of last January passed new minimum state requirements re-quirements for high school graduation. Each school district in the State was assigned the responsibility respon-sibility of drafting, planning plan-ning and implementing the graduation requirements require-ments in its district according ac-cording to its needs. There are many problems to be tested, many problems prob-lems unanswered. Field testing will begin this spring on all students from grade one through twelve. The Board also stated that the new addition on the present building had no federal funding. Sixty-five Sixty-five thousand was from state aid and the remainder remain-der was to come from Wayne County Property taxes. The present cook at the school lunch will not be returning next year and the Board ask for the community's assistance in obtaining one for next year. The wages are $2.65 an hour. The Board thanked the mothers who had assisted in the reading program at the school this past year. These generous ladies are Ginger Jamison, Selina Garber, Charlene Burt. Questions came up regarding re-garding the building of the chain link fence. It was suggested that it not be built until the new structure struc-ture is built so as not to restrict the contractors. |
