Show Explorers Demonstrate Climbing Techniques Explorer Post 2317 of Moab Mo-ab will again demonstrate their skill in rescue techniques techni-ques this Saturday evening, starting at 6 p.m. at the Moab Boat Dock Parking lot across the river from the Moab Lions Park. The Explortr Scouts are sponsored by Texas Gulf Sulphur Company, under the leadership of Robert Migli-ori Migli-ori who is Post advisor. Associate As-sociate advisor of the post are Carl Davis, Ed Foy, Babe Foy, Larry Stocks, Jim Hudson and Reed Draper. The reins of the post are directed di-rected by Brent Foy, president. presi-dent. The demonstrations will have several new features this year. One will be the participation of four beautiful beauti-ful young women who have completed the required training and are now qualified quali-fied as members of the Explorer Ex-plorer Post "Rock Runners" specialty team. All four girls are members of the Senior Girl Scout Troop 190, of Moab. Ten new trainees who have just been awarded their qualification patch wi'J also be participating. This youthful organization will demonstrate their ability to react to a call for rescue work by showing action in rappeling from 120 foot cliffs, climbing back up these same ropes by means of arussiks a technique in which three rope slings are used, a simulated stretcher rescue down a 120 foot cliff and something demonstrated demonstrat-ed for the first time, a stretcher str-etcher rescue up the 120 ft. cliff. Other manuvers will consist con-sist of rappeling a 50 foot overhanging cliff, a 100 foot overhang rappel, and the simulated rescue of a strand ed uninjured climber. The Explorer is on call at all times for rescue work . and is proud of their past performances. Much new search and rescue equipment, has been obtained by tha group. These include stretchers, stret-chers, first aid kits citizens Band 2 way radios, both mobile mo-bile and radio packs. Ame-ture Ame-ture band mobile radios have greatly increased the effectiveness of field radio communications, regardless of location. The scouts are equipped to set up search control centers, search and rescue if needed in any type terrain. ter-rain. Five 4-wheel drive vehicles,, ve-hicles,, all radia equipped are backed up by several two wheel drive units, also with raidos. Radio base stations sta-tions are maintained in Moab Mo-ab to carry the communications communica-tions to and from field locations. lo-cations.
