Show Lions Club Glaucoma Clinic -Slated for May 9th A clinic for the detection of glaucoma will be held op. May 9, 1969 at the Helen M. Knight Elementary School from 8 to 10 p.m., for all persons per-sons in the Grand, San Juan and Emery County area, 35 years of age and older. This free service will be sponsored by the Moab Lions Club, and conducted under the direction of the Utah Society So-ciety for the Prevention ,. of Blindness, Inc., the Utah Ophthalmological Society and the Grand County Health Department. Eye physicians using a tonometer to-nometer will measure pressure pres-sure of the eyes. The test is done quickly and painlessly. painless-ly. Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness in adults and may exist without apparent ap-parent signs and symptoms. Normally fluid runs into the eyeball and out at the same rate of speed. In 2 per cent of persons over the age of 35 the outflow for some reasons rea-sons ceases to function. Fluid accumulates in the eyeball, causing pressure and destruction des-truction of the nerve endings in the eye. Sight loss in this manner cannot be restored. However, if treatment is be- gun early, medical science can cheek the progress of glaucoma. Persons found at the screening screen-ing with possible evidence of glaucoma will be referred to a private eye physician for further tests and treatment. |
