Show Overweight truck penalties approved The Utah Transportation Commission, meeting in Og-den Og-den Friday, voted to add sanctions to its May 20 resolution governing the movement of overweight vehicles vehi-cles transporting divisible loads. The resolution was submitted to the Administrative Administra-tive Rule Making Process with the understanding that the sanctions would be added during the process. Friday's action spells out sanctions imposed for noncompliance non-compliance with overweight vehicles rules and directs the Utah Highway Patrol to revoke and cancel the permit for a vehicle found in violation of the rules. Further movement of the vehicle will require the load to be reduced to legal limits and purchase of a permit. In some cases, where reasonable grounds exist, UDOT may call a hearing to determine whether permits be revoked company-wide. The vehicle or vehicle combination com-bination violating the rules may be required to unload excessive weight at the point of apprehension or, if that would present a hazard, at the closest point where safe transfer is possible. If. in the judgment of the arresting officer, it is safer to proceed to the original destination, a vehicle may be allowed to do so but the officer will be required to submit a report of justification in each instance. The resolution, and the amendments adopted Friday, were prepared by an ad-hoc committee comprised of members mem-bers of UDOT and the trucking industry. |
