Show Hanksville news notes By Barbara Ekker The HANKSVTLLE Ward Girls Softball Team was organized or-ganized this week with Mrs. Sue Rasmussen as their coach. Players are Shelly Billiard, Bill-iard, Elly Mae Robinson, Jodi Ekker, Michelle Wilcox, Sherry Sher-ry Wilcox, Michelle Erickson, Debbie Erickson, Vicki Johnson, John-son, Lisa Sellers, and Lestie Lusko. A family dinner was held Saturday evening at the La Naie Albrecht home for Don-da Don-da Albrecht and her fiance. Lance Garver, and his mother, mo-ther, Donna, from California who arrived this week for the wedding which will be held the 25th. Twenty students, ages 12 to 14, arrived Monday in Hanks- ville from Ephraim, Gunnison, Cedar City, Provo, Orem and Mt. Pleasant to begin a week survival trip in the Robbers Roost area of Wayne County. This is a Day Camp Church Services project sponsored by the BYU. Instructors are Chuck Andrews and Ron Duf-fin Duf-fin of Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Meade Squires of Ephraim were among the parents bringing children. She is the former Ina Huntsman from Torrey. The Hanksville FAA is presently installing new radio outlets at Hanksville and Bullfrog. Bull-frog. These new additions will give service to Salt Lake and Cedar City flight services. Tom Campbell and Joe De Hen-era are doing the installation installa-tion after Mountain Bell installs in-stalls the needed lines. A baby shower will be held Thursday the 23rd at the Margaret Bullard home for her daughter, Lori, and new baby, Bobby Joe Dixon. The Dixons make their home in Price. Mrs. Alene Sellers from Bellflower, California has been visiting her son. Rod, and family and daughter, Kim Jackson and family this week after vacationing in Idaho. The Hanksville Girls MIA Softball team met Lyman on their home field Wednesday night and were defeated 8 to 3. The Hanksville July 4th celebration is all planned and everyone is looking foreward to a full day of activities. La Vor Wells is the director. Organizations involved in the days affairs are the P.T.A., Hanksville Sportsman's Club, MIA Young Women, and the Hoy Scouts. Sunrise services and flag raising, Boy Scouts. 6 to 8 a.m.-Breakfast, hot cakes and trimmings. Scouts. 8 to 12 noon-Gymkhana, Young Women MIA. Nine events to enter with 50 cents entry foe for each event: boot scramble, water race, sack hopping, key hole race, mail box race, can race, ribbons race, and pole bending. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons awarded and high point trophy tro-phy for all around contestant. Susan Wells is in charge. 1 to 4 -4x4 Hill Climb(rookie Hill) Rod Sellers is in charcc. Events include a womens 4 x 4, modified (jeeps) and dune buggies, regular 4x4's. Trophies Tro-phies for first places in each event and riblwns for other place winners. 4 till dusk -Clunker Race' sponsored by Sportsman club, Tom Martin. Pistol and Rifle Shoot alternating with 'Clunker 'Clun-ker Races'. 8:00--Turkcy Dinner by ITA with all the trimmings. A fowl wagon with sand wiches and cold drinks will circulate the entire day from one event to the other to quench the appetite. Kerry Hruce Ekker. July 24th Celebration is under the direction of the L.D.S. Church organizations and will be held the 2.'!rd at Dandelion Flat in the Henry Mountains for an "Old Fashioned Fash-ioned July 211 h". Everyone is asked to bring n pot lin k dish and homemade root beer will be served. There will be baseball, volleyball, foot races, nnd horse shoes and a lot. of sitting in the shades of the pines. |
