Show Chamber Begins Early Plans For Another Labor Day Try Moab's First Annual Community Com-munity Picnic was held last weekend with only moderate success, according to chairman chair-man of the event, Rodney Phillips. With several events ev-ents postponed because of weather and others hampered hamper-ed by poor attendance, the Chamber of Commerce began be-gan Tuesday to make plans for improvement of the event. Saturday's events startei off with a breakfast at Lions Park with about 100 people in attendance. This was fol-. fol-. lowed by a horse show and bike races. Afternoon events started off well with about 300 children chil-dren on hand at the City Park for sack races and other oth-er games. At 3 p.m. the Moab Mo-ab Swim Center was opened. open-ed. However, after only a short time, stormy weather made it impossible to keep the pool open. It was at this time that the baby contest and batting beauty contest were postponed until Monday. Mon-day. On Monday evening 21 babies ba-bies were entered in the contest con-test w-hich was judged by a couple from El Paso, Texas. The couple, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Winkler, were arrested and sentenced to stay in Moab as guests of the Ra-mada Ra-mada Inn and the Chamber of Commerce. Chosen as first place winner in the contest con-test was Sherry Walker, 3-month 3-month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Walker. Second place went to Brandon Bran-don Barela, 8 month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Barela. Ba-rela. Third place honors were awarded to Jason Zimmer man, 5 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Zimmerman. Following the baby contest, con-test, dinner was served at the City Park with just over 100 people in attendance. In the bathing beauty contest con-test held Monday evening, Cindy Key of Moab was awarded aw-arded first prize with second place going to Cynthia Wal-terschied. Wal-terschied. Linda Dowd was awarded third place and Sherry Frame of Thompson captured fourth place. |
